Respirator and Fit TestWhat is a Fit Test? A Fit Test simply tests the seal between your respirator and your face. There are two types of Fit Tests: Qualitative and Quantitative. Qualitative Fit Testing is a pass/ fail test method that uses your sense of taste or smell, or your reaction to an irritant oder to detect leakage into the respirator face-piece. Qualitative Fit Testing does not measure the actual amount of leakage. ACC provides Qualitative Fit Test, with the Irritant Smoke Method of detecting leakage, which can cause coughing if the respirator has a leak or does not properly fit. OSHA requires Fit Testing for any employee who must wear a respirator on the job. A Fit Test Certification is good for one year. What you need prior to a Fit Test: – ACC requires proof of a current medical evaluation before Fit Testing, with respirator clearance via a PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). – ACC also requires you come to class clean shaven, facial hair is a common cause of a respirator not sealing properly against the face. In addition to providing Fit Tests, ACC also carries North 7700 Series Half Face respirators in Small, Medium and Large. |
