Service: Fueling Facility Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation
Facility Type: Retail Fueling Station & Commercial Cardlock Facility
Description:
ACC completed an initial investigation and comprehensive site remediation for the decommissioning of both a retail fueling station and a cardlock fueling facility in Ridgefield, Washington. The project involved the removal of underground storage tanks (USTs), remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil, and regulatory compliance reporting. During the assessment phase, ACC conducted subsurface investigations, soil sampling, and hydrocarbon analysis to determine the extent of contamination. Remediation included removal of dispensers, piping, and impacted soil in compliance with Washington Department of Ecology standards. Due to the large-scale contamination, ACC worked closely with the contractor to phase excavation work while minimizing environmental risks. Air monitoring and vapor intrusion assessments were performed to ensure safe working conditions. Remediation efforts were adjusted as new contamination zones were identified. To expedite the project, separate work areas were established for each facility type, allowing contractors to begin restoration as remediation progressed. Site restoration included backfilling excavated areas, compacting soil, and confirming environmental closure through post-remediation verification sampling. Outcome: ACC successfully completed the site decommissioning and remediation, allowing both properties to meet regulatory closure requirements and be repurposed for future development. The project was completed on schedule and in full compliance with environmental regulations.
